Finally.....

Finally after a long period an update from my blog. It has been very busy months, with lots of shows, lot of work, but also time for relaxation.

Shows are always fun to do, but also very tiring. The fun part is often the contacts with the stitchers, learning what they are doing and seeing what people like most. Also fun are the contacts with the other exhibitors. It is only a pity that there is so much envy and jealousy, and people don't like you to succeed. But that is not only something which happens only with stitching, but in the whole hobby branche. My favourite show this past year was a show in Italy, where we have been on request from Casa Cenina to show all the hand dyed threads and silks and learn people how to work with it. Everyone from Casa Cenina feel like one BIG family and are a lot of fun to be with. On such a show you always meet a lot of people and get to know other designers. Of course we already have a lot of contact with Marie Suarez, but at this show in Italy we also met Isabella from The Primitive Hare, but more about that later.

During this show a new booklet was released with designs from 9 different designers. The theme of this booklet is Tuscan Memories. I was also asked to make a design and here you can see the first part of it.

As mentioned before we have met on the show in Italy also Isabella from the Primitive Hare. She has lovely wooden accessories like different kind of threadkeepers but also a horn book. I could not resist making a chart for this as well.

And now it is nearly the end of the year. A year during which a lot has happened, bot good but also some bad things.
At the moment it has snown here a lot and especially the last couple of days it has been very cold.

Our plans for the next year have already been decided upon. Not als many shows like this autumn, but only 1 x per month. Besides that I hope to get more time available for the designing and stitching. I still have to make 2 designs for commitments and after that.... who knows. Perhaps i will even have some free time to make some freebies for this blog.

Voor iedereen:

Prettige feestdagen en gelukkig en gezond 2011

For everyone:
Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2011!!

Say it with flowers, a well known advertising remark. I can still remember an add with great purple and orange flowers. Those colors/flowers made a huge impression and I decided to use them in a new series of designs.

Because a lot of people do not like stitching special stitches I also decided to make a version with only cross stitch. This time in a more muted color as the orange/purple version was not my usual style according to my husband.

And I went on, because besides the 2 options I thought it would be handy to have 2 ways of finishing. A needleroll or framed in a standard pictureframe (no high costs of framing).
Both methods have been described in one chart. So you have a chart with 8 options. special stitches, cross stitches, 2 color options, and 2 different finishing ideas.

Special stitches used are:Open Herringbone stitch, Waffle stitch, Lazy Daisy stitch, Closed Herringbone stitch, Ray Stitch, Cushion Stitch, Threaded Herringbone stitch, Diamond Eyelets, Double Herringbone stitch and a Sprat's head.
Enough special stitches to make with the help of clearly described stitch diagrams.

The second design again has 8 different options. The thread I used for these designs is ThreadworX, a lovely hand-dyed cotton Thread that works great.

Speciale steken bij dit patroon zijn: Longarm Cross stitch, Octagon Rhodes Stitch, Lazy Daisy stitch, Montenegrin stitch, Woven Spiderweb stitch, Threaded Bosnia Stitch, Buttonhole Wheels, Two-sided Italian cross stitch.

Special stitches used with this chart are:Longarm Cross stitch, Octagon Rhodes Stitch, Lazy Daisy stitch, Montenegrin stitch, Woven Spiderweb stitch, Threaded Bosnia Stitch, Buttonhole Wheels, Two-sided Italian cross stitch.

Included in both charts are charms (2) as there are a minimum of 2 options.

We zijn weer terug, We are back

After a week of rest in Spain we are back from our holiday. We had rented a house through the following site: Holiday Rentals UK. This is really worthwhile to have a look when you plan a holiday. We rented a Andalusian Villa close to the place Carboneras in Andalusia. The house was about 10 minutes from the beach in a very quiet surrounding.

To give you an impression of the house and the surrounding some pictures.

Rond het huis waren veel planten, o.a. verschillende soorten cactussen.

Surrounding the house there were a lot of plants, a.o. cacti. And a lot started flowering.

Of course we did a lot of sightseeing. We visited a number of places in the surrounding area, but we also made a trip of approx. 2 hours to Granada where we visited the Alhambra.

I was impressed by all the Islamic motifs you could see in the tiles, wood carving etc.

When I see this I already started thinking how lovely this would be in a stitching project.

Looking back we did have a very nice week. And now it is back to work again. Next week we will release a new chart. Pictures are already take.

This is a set consisting of 5 items: a basket, a needlebook, a biscornu, scissorholder, scissorkeeper.

Tot volgende keer

Till next time

Finally, holiday, new accessories and new designs

Although I had intended to write more in my blog I found out I could not do that. After my surgery we found out that not everything went as it should be.My lymphnodes are not working well and as a result I have a lot pf problems with fluid. Since 1.5 weeks I am going to a special skintherapist for oedematherapy and I must say, it does help!! I also learned that I have to take more rest than usual. So no long trips and long holidays. Initially we planned to go to the US in May, but that was not possible so short after my surgery. Then we decided to plan a cruise, but also that is too tiring. Especially if you do not want to spend the whole day in your cabin. Finally we decided to go to Almeria in Spain for one week. We rented a house with a swimming pool. The temperature is very nice there, approx. 25-30 Celsius.

The last couple of weeks we did receive a lot of accessories. New scissors, needles and pins (with a free chart from Marie Suarez) and also ofcourse a lot of threads. Regarding the threads, we did get especially threads from ThreadworX. Lovely colors and although I am a silkaddict and this thread is mostly from Cotton, I am alreayd busy stitching with it.

At the moment nearly 3 new charts are ready, which will be published soon.
The first new design will be an accessory set.
The next new designs will be something different. As most people know I like special stitches. Now I made a needleroll with special stitches. But for those of you who don't like that I made a conversion to cross stitches. And for those of you who don't like a needleroll, this design fits perfectly in a standard pictureframe. So easy to frame. Also I used 2 different color combinations. So this will be a chart with 8 options, 2 different finishings, 2 different color combinations and 2 different kind of stitches. It seems to me there will be enough choice. I can't show the pictures yet as I am waiting for the final charms I want to add.

Good news this week
We heard the results yesterday and I am clean. All tumorcells have been removed. Now all I have to do is going to the 3 monthly checkups and rest from all the physical and emotional stress I had these past weeks.

As mentioned last week, I have been busy looking at all new books. What I did not tell you that this has one negative consequence. Reading leads to more WIP's.
The first book that already interested me was the following: Broderie Creative avec des fils nuances van Via Laurie.
On the front page you will notice a number of different techniques, such as stitcherie, needlepoint, gold work, hardanger, Jacobean style, patchwork etc. And all of that with handdyed threads.
When you start reading this book you will notice a lot more techniques, such as blackwork, casalguidi, ribbonembroidery etc. You are immediately motivated to start with a project. And this is what I mean: reading these books has the disadvantage that you get a lot of WIP's. And I already have some here :)

It has been a long time since I wrote something in my blog. Last year we ended with some problems in the family which are now solved. Since then we have been to a number of shows, like Aiguille en Fete Pro in Paris, which is a French tradeshow, the Handwerkbeurs in Zwolle and finally the Handarbeit & Hobby Show in Cologne Germany.

Because of all these shows I did not have much time to write in my blog. Because for a show you have to prepare a lot, gathering charts, threads and afterwards sending out orders. At the end of this month all major shows for this season are over. In September it will all start again.

nodig is.

I thought I would get more time to design and stitch during the summer. But something happened which prevented this. Here in Holland we have a 2-yearly check-up for breastcancer, and at the end of February it was my turn. Totally unexpected I was told I had 2 tumors in my breast, so breastcancer. After a lot of examinations I had breastsurgery (breastamputation) last week. I am now at home recovering again. We still have not heard the results and if there are any metastasis, and if so, if I need further treatment. This will mean an axious time for the next couple of weeks. At the moment I get a lot of support of a Dutch group from the Borduren pagina. Every day cards arrive with all the best wishes from a lot of people, some of whom you have never met.

As I can't do much at the moment I decided to have a look at my books (I did buy a number of them lately). Ofcourse most of them are stitching books.
At the moment I am looking at Points associes et autres points complices due point de croix. This is a very nice book in French, that starts with a part about all different ideas for finishing. After that a part with all the different stitches, often with pictures on how to make a special stitch. Looking through this book you will get lots of ideas!!!

In the past you learned at school how to stich a sampler with special stitches. This was the so called schoolsampler, often made in red. This book will give you the possibilities to make several samplers yourselves, but then with special stitches. It gives you composite examples for these different samplers.

Lots of these books are available from am-inspirations.
