Metallics en overige synthetische garens

Als vervolg op de vorige berichten over de verschillende garens deze keer over de metallics en overige synthetische garens.
Zoals al gemeld de vorige keer kwamen de synthetische garens in opmars na de tweede wereldoorlog. We hebben ook hier weer een onderscheid gemaakt tussen 3 soorten:
Metallics
Pluizige synthetics
Glanzende synthetics.

In continuation to my previous messages about different threads this time we will talk about metallics and other synthetic threads. As mentioned before the synthetic threads advanced after Worldwar II. And also here we make a difference between 3 major sorts:
Metallics
Fuzzy synthetics
Shiny Synthetics

Metallics
Er zijn verschillende soorten metallics garen, o.a. van Kreinik en Rainbow Gallery. Maar ook zijn er metallics van Anchor en DMC. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan het goud en zilvergaren. Kreinik heeft band (braids) in verschillende diktes en gewichten. En ook verschillende linten in 2 breedtes. En beiden zijn verkrijgbaar in zeer veel kleuren.
Blending filament ook wel bekend van Kreinik wordt vaak gebruikt in samenhang met ander garen en geeft op die manier een glinstering aan het project. Omdat blending filament erg dun is, zal het vrijwel nooit zelfstandig gebruikt worden maar altijd in combinatie met ander garen, hetzij door deze gezamenlijk te borduren hetzij door over het andere garen heen te borduren.

Metallics
There are different kinds of metallic threads, such as from Kreinik and Rainbow Gallery. But there are also metallics from Anchor and DMC. Just think about their gold and silverthreads. Kreinik has braids in different sizes and weights. There are also ribbons in 2 different sizes. And both of them are available in a lot of colors.
Blending filament is also known from Kreinik and is often used in combination with other threads and thus give a sparkling to the project. As blending filament is very thin, it is hardly used on its own but also in combination with other threads, by stitchig the two or more threads together or by simply stitching over the other thread.

Pluizige synthetische garens
Er zijn ook verschillende soorten pluizige garens, denk maar aan Silk'n Chenille van Threadgatherers, Nylon Velour en natuurlijk Whisper, een van de bekendste garens van Rainbow Gallery dat veelal wordt gebruikt voor de baard van de kerstman.

Fuzzy Synthetics
There are different kind of fuzzy threads, just think about Silk'n Chenille from Threadgatherers, Nylon Velour and ofcourse Whisper, one of the most known threads from Rainbow Gallery which is often used for the beard of Santa.

Glanzende synthetic garens
Bekende synthetische garens zijn o.a. Marlitt (4 draads garen van Anchor) en DMC rayon floss (6 draads) die beiden een duidelijke glans geven aan het werk. Het zijn beiden gladde garens and niet zo makkelijk om mee te werken omdat ze gauw in de knoop raken. Het helpt om het garen eerst wat nat te maken voor er mee te werken.
Het zijn goedkopere garens dan de zijden garens, maar ze hebben wel een zijde-achtige uitstraling.

Shiny synthetics
Well known synthetics threads are Marlitt (4 stranded floss from Anchor) and DMC rayon floss (6 ply), both give a radiant shine to your work. Both threads are quite slippery and are not easy to work with as they tend to knot easily. Best thing is to moistening the threads while using them.
They are cheaper then silk threads, but still have a silk-like sheen.
